The Tiny Dancer Top is a lightweight, top-down knit top where classic lace meets modern design. Knit in DK-weight yarn, the top features a clean, repeating chevron lace pattern that creates a beautifully undulating surface. Rows of dropped stitches add rhythm and airiness to the fabric — making it a perfect choice for warmer days or layering.

This pattern is also an excellent introduction to lace knitting: the clear, repetitive motif makes the lacework easy to follow yet engaging. The square neckline, wide straps, and neatly shaped armholes are finished with i-cord edges, giving the top a polished and refined look.

Recommended ease: approx. 0–5 cm / 0–2” of positive ease on the bust (or widest part). Sample knitted with 3 cm / 1” of positive ease on the chest.

Measurements for the finished top:

  • Bust circumference approx: 72 (81, 90, 99, 108) (117, 126, 135, 144) cm / 28.5 (32, 35.5, 39, 42.5) (46, 50, 53, 144)”
  • Length from armhole to hem: approx. 31 (32, 33, 34, 35) (36, 37, 38, 39) cm / 12.25 (12.6, 13, 13.5, 13.75) (14, 14.5, 15, 15.5)” – this can be altered.
  • Armhole circumference approx: 30 (35, 36, 42, 47) (53, 58, 65, 70) cm / 12 (13,75, 14, 16.5, 18.5) (21, 23, 25.5, 27.5)”

The patterns in this category require that you have experience with and feel confident in using the basic knitting techniques, as the patterns contain more advanced techniques for example for casting on, picking up and knitting stitches or working short rows.

You may need to keep track of multiple elements at the same time – for example you may need to work a charted pattern while working shaping at the same time.
