Poolaknits Magnolia is a beautiful, chunky knit featuring an easy broken rib stitch pattern. This sweater works up quickly on large needles, even for beginners. Magnolia’s polished ribbing, dropped shoulders, and relaxed fit make it a timeless wardrobe classic.

How to choose the right size:
Measure your bust circumference (or the widest part of your upper body), add 20 cm, and choose the size based on the finished garment measurements. For example, if your bust circumference is 108 cm, choose size 4.

Recommended ease: approx. 20 cm

Measurements:
Finished sweater circumference (measured around the bust): approx. 98 (108) 118 (128) 138 (148) cm

Unfortunately, the yarn used in the sample piece is not part of our selection, but Sandnes Garn Børstet Alpakka in shade number 4315 is the closest match.

  • Sizes 1–2: 5 skeins
  • Sizes 3–4: 6 skeins
  • Size 5: 7 skeins
  • Size 6: 8 skeins

Magnolia is worked from the bottom up, first in the round to the underarms. The work is then divided into front and back pieces, which are worked flat separately and finally joined at the shoulders. Stitches are picked up for the neckline and a ribbed neckband is worked, then folded double for a neat finish.

Once the body is complete, the sleeves are worked one at a time directly onto the body by picking up stitches around the armholes. The broken rib stitch pattern is easy to create by alternating between knit stitches and ribbing.

Difficulty level: Magnolia is suitable for beginners.

GAUGE

10 cm x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches) = 10 sts x 17 rows (on 8 mm (US 11) needles, in broken rib stitch for the body part)

NEEDLES

5 mm double-pointed needles and 40 cm and 60 cm or 80 cm circular needles, as well as 8 mm circular needles in 40 cm and 60 cm or 80 cm lengths. Choose needle sizes to obtain the gauge given in the pattern.
