The Sophie Shawl is a soft and warm triangular shawl that can be finished in just a few evenings. It is knitted entirely in garter stitch, making it easy to work on even while watching TV. The shawl features a beautiful i-cord edge that is knitted at the same time as the shawl, so there is no need to pick up stitches afterward. The pattern is also suitable for beginners.

Sizes: S (M) L

Length from tip to tip: approx. 170 (210) 240 cm [67 (82¾) 94½ inches]

Width at center: approx. 28 (34) 38 cm [11 (13½) 15 inches]

This shawl can be knitted with either Sandnes Garn Kos or Alpakka Ull, and each yarn brings its own unique character to the project.

  • Sandnes Garn Kos is wonderfully soft, slightly thicker, yet very lightweight alpaca-blend yarn that gives the shawl a fluffy, warm, and luxurious feel.
  • Sandnes Garn Alpakka Ull, on the other hand, is a more structured and warm blend of alpaca and wool, providing the shawl with beautiful texture and added durability.

You can choose the yarn based on whether you prefer your shawl to be especially soft and airy, or a bit more structured and warm.

Sandnes Garn Alpakka Ull (50 g = 100 m [109 yds])

  • S = 3 balls

  • M = 5 balls

  • L = 6 balls

Sandnes Garn Kos (50 g = 150 m [164 yards])

  • S = 2 balls

  • M = 3 balls

  • L = 4 balls

The Sophie Shawl is worked back and forth in one piece, from tip to tip in garter stitch with built-in i-cord edges.

The patterns in this category require that you have experience with and feel confident in using the basic knitting techniques, as the patterns contain more advanced techniques for example for casting on, picking up and knitting stitches or working short rows.

You may need to keep track of multiple elements at the same time – for example you may need to work a charted pattern while working shaping at the same time.
