Anker’s Summer Shirt has been by far the most popular pattern in our store this summer. Below are a few reasons for its huge popularity:

  • Easy and beginner-friendly pattern

  • Quick to finish

  • You don’t need to stare at the pattern constantly—you can even knit while watching TV

  • Seamlessly knitted from the top down

  • The cotton-linen-viscose yarn used in the pattern is wonderfully soft and pleasant both to knit and to wear

  • The ribbing pattern on the yoke makes the knitting more interesting than plain stockinette and also gives the shirt a beautifully fitting shape

Anker’s Summer Shirt is designed to have approx. 0-5 cm [0-2 inches] of positive ease, meaning it is designed to be 0-5 cm [0-2 inches] larger in circumference than your widest upper body measurement.

The sizes XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL (4XL) 5XL are designed to fit a bust circumference of 80-85 (85-90) 90-95 (95-100) 100-110 (110-120) 120-130 (130-140) 140-150 cm [31½-33½ (33½-35½) 35½-37½ (37½-39¼) 39¼-43¼ (43¼-47¼) 47¼-51¼ inches]. The measurements for the finished garment are on the front page of the pattern (note that these measurements are only achieved if the correct gauge is kept). Before beginning your project, measure yourself with a measuring tape around your bust (or your widest upper body part) to determine which size will fit you the best. For example, if you measure 95 cm [37½ inches] you should knit a size M. A size M shirt has a finished circumference of 96 cm [37¾ inches], which in the given example would mean 1 cm [½ inches] of positive ease.

Sizes: XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL (4XL) 5XL

Bust circumference: 85 (91) 96 (100) 110 (120) 130 (140) 153 cm [33½ (35¾) 37¾ (39¼) 43¼ (47¼) 51¼ (55) 60¼ inches]

Total length: 52 (54) 56 (60) 62 (62) 64 (66) 68 cm [20½ (21¼) 22 (23½) 24½ (24½) 25¼ (26) 26¾ inches]

Sleeve length: 9 (9) 10 (10) 10 (10) 10 (10) 10 cm [3½ (3½) 4 (4) 4 (4) 4 (4) 4 inches]

Sandnes Garn Line (50 g = 110 m):

  • XS = 5 skeins
  • S – M = 6 skeins
  • L = 7-8 skeins
  • XL = 8 skeins
  • 2XL = 9 skeins
  • 3XL = 9-10 skeins
  • 4-5XL = 10 skeins

Anker’s Summer Shirt is worked from the top down. The yoke is worked in sections of rib with increases in the round, followed by classic raglan increases when the stockinette stitch section begins. The sleeves are worked at the end, either on double-pointed needles or on circular needles using the Magic Loop technique. Anker’s Summer Shirt has no finishing other than weaving in ends. Begin by working a swatch to determine which needle size you need to achieve the correct gauge. Note that the swatch needs to be washed and blocked before measuring the gauge.

GAUGE

20 sts x 28 rows = 10 x 10 cm [4 x 4 inches] in stockinette stitch on 4 mm [US6] needles after wash and blocking

NEEDLES

E.g. Circular needles: 4 mm [US6] / 40, 60, 80 and/or 100 cm [16, 24, 32 and/or 40 inches], circular needles 3.5 mm [US4] / 80 or 100 cm [32 or 40 inches]; Double-pointed needles: 4 mm [US6] and 3.5 mm [US4] (if the Magic Loop technique is not used)

I used a yarn that is stretchy when knitted. The color wasn’t as fresh as in the pictures, which is understandable. We’ll see how nice it is in use, whether it’s too ‘floppy’. It might also be due to my tension. I made the sleeves longer than in the instructions….

The yarn is really lovely. Not itchy. Creates a smooth finish and looks good. I made a raspberry red sweater. I’m also interested in the corresponding children’s pattern. Can the children’s sweater also be made from this Line yarn? Is it the same needle size 4? I’m also wondering about the size advice. It feels like it will be quite a large sweater. Can the instructions be trusted to make it according to the chest circumference?
