We are a small yarn store located in Finnish Lapland in Salla in the middle of nowhere. We sell high quality knitting yarns and knitting patterns by nordic brands and individual designers.

How It All Began
It all started around the turn of the year 2018–2019, when I was on maternity leave and found myself with unexpected pockets of free time while my baby slept. That quiet time rekindled an old love — knitting.
I began designing my own knitting patterns and sharing them on Ravelry, where the warm and encouraging feedback from other knitters inspired me to take things further.
Soon after, I founded knitgrammer.com, a space where my passion for knitting meets my background in computer science. There, I started coding interactive knitting calculators and smart tools that help knitters around the world make their craft easier, smoother, and even more enjoyable.
A Dream Come True
In November 2023, I decided to make a long-time dream come true and opened a small, cozy 10-square-meter yarn shop inside the Salla Art Café. At first, the online store grew slowly — but by the spring of 2024, business had picked up so well that I hired a helping hand to pack orders.
As demand continued to grow, I expanded the shop space three times within less than a year, all while remaining part of the charming Art Café community.
Autumn 2024 – Challenges and New Beginnings
Unfortunately, just after we had finished building our new storage space, the landlord of our premises failed to meet their obligations. When the electricity and water were cut off, we had no choice but to dismantle the entire warehouse. We were forced to find a new, larger location and rebuild everything from scratch.
It was an exciting yet challenging time — our costs increased significantly — but we’re proud that we managed to overcome it all and come out stronger.
Last autumn, Timo joined as a business partner, as running everything alone had started to feel overwhelming at times. Now there are two of us, and having a partner has made running the business much more enjoyable.
We carefully select our yarn collection with quality and durability in mind — focusing on yarns that not only look beautiful but also hold up well over time and stay neat after washing. We take great pride in being able to run a thriving business in the middle of nowhere, to live here, and to create local jobs.
We also proudly feature Finnish knitting designers’ patterns in our selection — supporting creativity, craftsmanship, and the vibrant knitting community we’re part of.
Autumn 2025 – Opening Nordic Knitting Shop
By autumn 2025, we felt it was time to take the next big step.
After steady growth in Finland and building a loyal community of knitters who share our love for quality yarns and thoughtful craftsmanship, we’re excited to enter a new chapter.
From now on, we’ll focus purely on Nordic yarns and patterns, and we’re opening our doors to knitters around the world by starting international shipping.
To reflect our renewed focus and identity, Knitgrammer is now Nordic Knitting Shop — a name that embodies our roots, our values, and our passion for timeless Nordic design.
